Six departments operate in the NLZOH in the frame of the Centre for Chemical analysis of food, Water and other Environmental Samples (CKA) on locations in Celje, Kranj, Koper, Maribor, Novo mesto and Nova Gorica. The Centre’s basic activity is the conduct of chemical analysis in different sample types. We use more than 600 analytical methods (with more than 3000 parameters), thereof more than 350 different methods in the scope of accreditation (Document LP-14), using the same methods on different locations. The number of methods increases permanently. We adapt promptly to demands of our clients, changes in legislation and events in the environment, possessing suitable knowledge, equipment and capacities for that.

We cooperate in different research projects of the NLZOH and other partners.

150 staff members work in the Centre for chemical analysis. The work is done by high-level expert staff:  doctors of science, specialists, university graded chemists and engineers, laboratory technicians and other staff. Our equipment and laboratories have state-of-art-technology and we are easily available on six different locations of equivalent value in Slovenia. Based on our competencies, we can provide technical support to clients in need of analysis for permanent control of their procedures and products or for development of new procedures and products.

All analysis and the necessary reception and preparation of samples are conducted with the highest level of quality assurance according to SIST EN ISO/IEC 17025 and for agreed on programmes according to good laboratory practice (GLP) and good manufacturing practice (GMP). We participate in over 10 different comparative schemes and good results confirm our high competence, the reliability of our results and our comparability with laboratories outside Slovenia.

We are appointed for performance of the tasks of the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for analysis in the following areas: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) in food, residues of pesticides  in Food (single methods), residues of pesticides in fruit and vegetables, residues of pesticides  in food of animal origin and products with high fat content, dioxins and PCB in feed and food, mycotoxins in food, mercury and heavy metals in Food of non-animal origin,  residues of veterinary medicinal products in food of animal origin (thyrostatic substances, colchicine,  antihelmintics, etc.).
